Steady hiss versus intermittent crackles

A quiet recording turned up too far may reveal a continuous noise floor. RNNoise can sometimes reduce that background hiss. Short electrical pops or a loose cable produce transient damage; this tool has no dedicated de-click or de-crackle repair.

Listen through another pair of headphones to rule out playback problems. For a new recording, reconnect cables and lower input gain if loud words distort. Keep an untouched original: denoising cannot reconstruct missing samples or guarantee static removal.

Can DenoiseKit remove all static from audio?

No. RNNoise is speech noise reduction, not a universal static repair engine. It may help with steady hiss but cannot guarantee repair of crackles, clipping or digital dropouts.

What should I listen for after cleanup?

Compare hiss during pauses, then listen to soft words and consonants. If speech is damaged or static remains, keep the original and consider a dedicated restoration editor or a new recording.

Can I test a voice note without uploading it?

Yes. Choose a supported file up to 5 minutes long and compare local previews. The free allowance is 3 files per local calendar day; downloads are WAV or MP3.
